The department of higher education is working to guarantee that students who receive financial aid have access to decent housing while they are attending classes. Now, lodging providers may demonstrate that their lodging is worth the money the department is paying for it.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) bursaries help thousands of students pay for their higher education. Nsfas Pay’s complete bursary covered all expenses for students, including tuition, books, transportation, and food.
Additionally, Nsfas offers supported students an accommodation allowance. The housing allowance makes sure that students can reside close to the institution or university where they are attending classes.
Many students who live far from the higher education school they attend might not be able to attend class regularly without the accommodation allowances.

Nsfas will provide sponsored students with housing in 2024 based on the real fees charged by the university they attend. Private housing costs cannot be higher than those associated with university housing.
Students enrolling in authorized academic programs at Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges are also given housing allowances by Nsfas. Nsfas, however, bases its calculation of this lodging allowance on the kind of neighborhood the lodging is located in.
An annual allowance of R24,000 will be given to students who live in urban housing. The annual housing allowance for students living in peri-urban regions is R18,900, whereas the annual housing allowance for students living in rural areas is R15,750.
In order to provide beneficiaries of Nsfas with student housing, Nsfas will also sign off-take agreements with pertinent parties. A producer and a buyer may agree to an off-take agreement in order to buy or sell a percentage of the producer’s anticipated products or services.
In the instance of Nsfas, they ask lodging companies to consent to host program participants in their lodging options.
Off-take agreements are being signed through an application process for unfinished and underdeveloped lodging establishments. The Nsfas recipients who are currently staying with lodging providers are exempt from these.
